Cut the calories but still can’t lose weight?
Are you struggling to lose weight? You’ve cut your calories and are eating ‘clean’ yet the fat still isn’t budging.
Or maybe you’ve lost stacks of weight on a shake or fast or low-carb diet, yet you’ve put it all back on again, and now you’ve lost your ability to lose any weight at all!
As a Clinical Nutritionist I’ve had many clients come to me and tell me that they only eat 1200-1400 calories a day (or less!), and they can’t seem to understand why they aren’t losing weight. Surely eating less would mean they could finally lose weight?!
Not so!! Why?
Because eating less can actually make the situation worse as it slows down your metabolism. When your metabolism is too slow it goes into starvation mode, which means you’ll store even LETTUCE as fat, and you certainly won’t burn any fat!
This slowing down of the metabolic hormonal system is a protective mechanism, much like what your body would do if it were in an actual famine.
To burn fat, you need energy (food!). The more fat you need to burn, the more energy it requires – the more food you need!
If you’re struggling to lose weight, or if you’re unsure as to whether your eating enough (or too much) for your body composition, health and performance goals, feel free to get in touch to find out how we can help you achieve an awesome body, get ripper health, and excel in your performance goals!
